Joining Instructions for the Elluminate learning event
10-11/02/11
When does it start?
The learning event starts at 0900hrs and will finish at 1600hrs on both the 10th and 11th of February.
Who’s delivering it?
The event will be facilitated in person by Phil Green from Onlignment with an element of virtual facilitation from his colleague Barry Sampson.
Will I get fed?
Catering has been arranged for both days. Please contact Craig Taylor if you have any specific dietary requirements.
Where do I need to be?
In order to safeguard against network problems (as much as possible), it has been decided to conduct the event off-sit at The Success Factory. Full address details can be found by clicking on the blue map marker in the map below. (you may need to zoom out of the map in order to view it correctly)

What will we be covering during the event?
Some of you will have already been provided with an overview of the ‘administrators’ functionality within Elluminate, however Phil & Barry will be concentrating on how to use the tool itself to facilitate dynamic, interactive, learner-focussed online activities.
For those of you who want to find out a little more about Elluminate I have included a Slideshare below. Please note that this quite an old Slideshare so it may not be a 100% accurate representation of the version that we will be using, but at least it will give you an idea…
Do I need to bring anything?
Please bring with you on a USB stick any images, text, movies, documents, PowerPoint etc that you may want to use within your online activity. This is quite important as it will allow you to start creating *real* online activities for you to then implement upon your return to work.
Due to the fact that this event is taking place offsite it would be beneficial for you to bring a laptop/netbook. I will be able to provide some devices if you are unable to provide your own, but you may feel more comfortable with your own machine.
If you have your own set of headphones you may wish to bring these, however a (cheap) set of headphones will be provided.
Do I need to do anything in advance of the event?
Prior to the event there are 4 small pieces of preparatory work to carry out…
- You should view this page from the Elluminate website.
- Read Section 1 of the Live Online Learning Facilitators guide.
- Review the content of each of these blog posts. They will provide some food for thought and may act as a source of inspiration for your virtual classroom sessions.
- Participate in this pre-event survey.
- And if you are on Twitter, then follow Onlignment to keep up to date with some great ideas to enhance your virtual classrooms
And finally…..
If you facilitate any face-to-face learning events then why not consider whether your events could benefit from this type of Joining Instruction.
Maybe you could prick their interest in your subject by using a video as an intro…?
… perhaps you could poll delegates before they arrive at your event…?
… maybe a podcast could act as some pre-event preparation..?
If you would like to trial this approach then please contact me and we can start looking into it
See you on the 10th February 2011
