#ContentStrategy #MOOC – Week 5

Posted on May 5, 2015

If you’ve not read my Week 1 post from this series, you may want to read it prior to reading this post….

I plan to blog my way through, initially this MOOC, and in time through the whole specialisation. In order to stop these weekly posts from becoming a ramble I am going to try and stick to the following headings

  • This weeks theme
  • Key takeaway(s)
  • Coursera/MOOC design observation
  • Synergies with L&D
  • Homework/Assignment

This weeks theme.

Social/mobile media

Key takeaway(s)

My key takeaway from this week relates to the slide below:

Slide from Coursera MOOC

Slide from Coursera MOOC

A suggestion was made in one of the videos that when crafting marketing material for our content that we should consider tapping into Maslows Hierachy of Needs and weave them into the comms.

Basic physiological needs: Appeal to the users sense of safety. We want to be part of group, we dont want to be left behind. Use phrases such as join others etc

Psychological needs: Use phrases such as keep up with your peers, find out what your competitors are looking at etc

Self-fulfilment – Use phrases such as be all you can be, achieve your potential, reach the top etc

Coursera/MOOC design observation

I’ve continued to take notes in Evernote and am pleased to see that each video continues to include a Take Back To Work slide.

At various stages of this MOOC Medill University have referenced their book Medill on Media Engagement, this is no surprise as a number of other MOOCs I have participated in have done them same, however what made this particular instance worthy of note is that the relevant chapters have been available for FREE download to participants – others take note!!

Synergies with L&D

Given the social and mobile focus this week there were a number of parallels that could be drawn with L&D. Unsurprisingly, the Content Marketing world seems to be ahead of the L&D world in both of these areas – look outside the bubble people!

Ive not completed any of the forum assignments this week as I feel Im having to play catch up now that the final project assignment has been released. I plan to post my final assignment as a blog post once the MOOC is formally over.
